Ongoing Projects
The BRICS Lab is currently pursuing three research projects on the changing role of BRICS in global governance:

BRICS EXPANSION:
This project investigates the drivers, politics, and implications of BRICS enlargement, with a focus on the group’s outreach strategy, membership negotiations, and coalition-building. (Photo: Leaders at the 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan. Source: Reuters/Maxim Shemetov/Pool.)

Our research analyzes how the United States perceives and responds to the BRICS group, examining strategic narratives, foreign policy positioning, and diplomatic engagement.

BRICS AS A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ACTOR:
This project explores the group’s role in shaping sustainable development agendas, particularly in the areas of climate governance, inequality, and South-South cooperation. (Photo: 2025 BRICS presidency logo featuring the Amazonian samaúma tree. Source: brics.br, Disclosure.)
