Who We Are:

Each dorm (except Random Hall) has 1-3 students assigned as Food Waste Fighters. They will be implementing the new food waste bins, track and maintain usage of the bins, run events to teach residents about food waste, and answer questions. You can find each dorm’s Food Waste Fighters listed below, along with instructions about where to find the new food waste bins in your dorm!

Food Waste Fighters by Dorm:

Maseeh Hall
  • Jennifer Espinoza – She/Her – jennespi@mit.edu

Instructions:
When finished with your meal, make sure to deposit your food scraps in the specific green food waste bin and deposit the rest of the waste in their respective locations whether that be trash or recycle.

McCormick Hall
  • Rita Braun – She/Her – ribraun@mit.edu
  • Lucy Gray – lgray14@mit.edu

Instructions:
Bring your food to the kitchen and deposit it into the food waste bin.

Baker House
  • Zac Nwogwugwu – zacnwo@mit.edu
  • Vicky Wong – She/Her – wongv@mit.edu
  • Emma Hickman – She/Her – eeh@mit.edu

Instructions:
For the bins in dining halls: Bring your dishes to the designated disposal area. First, put the cups and eating utensils in their designated area. Then, put any items that can be recycled in the recycling bin. Finally, put all uneaten food in the food waste bin.

For the bins in the living areas (ex. lounges): You can keep a small bin in your room for food waste to dispose of when convenient, or you can dispose of food waste immediately after eating in the bins in the living areas.

Burton Conner
  • Jay Mancera – jmancera@mit.edu
  • Haylea Brock – hbrock@mit.edu

Instructions:
Residents can currently opt-in to the program and request a small, 2-gallon food waste bin for their suite. All food waste can be emptied into this small container. Once a day- or whenever the bin is full- residents should then take that smaller bin and empty it into the large food waste collection bin located outside the TV Lounge. The bin outside the TV Lounge is also always available for students to deposit food waste.

MacGregor House
  • Danny Antonelli – He/Him – danny_a@mit.edu
  • Jophy Ye – jophyyjh@mit.edu

Instructions:
Bring any food waste to the main kitchen of your entry and put it in the food waste bin, which will be emptied weekly.

New House
  • Alura Lahn – They/Them – palural@mit.edu
  • Kayana Coradin – kayana@mit.edu

Instructions:
Use the green food waste bins located near the trash in each kitchen to deposit any food waste from cooking or uneaten food.

Next House
  • Alexa-Rae Simao – aps25@mit.edu
  • Katherine Kitzinger – kkitzing@mit.edu
  • Eldar Urkumbayev – He/Him – eldaru@mit.edu

Instructions:
Whenever you have food you don’t want to, or cannot eat, please bring it to the closest food waste bin and dump it from its container. Do not put plastic, cardboard, or even compostable utensils and tupperware, as they don’t work with MIT’s food recycling facility. (I would also print out a visual instruction and put it in main lounges and other eating areas.

Simmons Hall
  • Celestina Pint – She/Her – cpint@mit.edu

Instructions:
Deposit food in the nearest food waste bin (in your local lounge or near trash cans)

New Vassar
  • Wacuka Ngata – She/Her – wngata@mit.edu
  • Runako Gentles – He/Him – rgentles@mit.edu
