Prof. Kamal Youcef-Toumi

Dr. Kamal Youcef-Toumi is a prominent leader in robotics, focusing on water management, marine robotics, nanofabrication, and intelligent systems. He joined MIT as a faculty member at the institute’s Mechanical Engineering Department in 1986, contributing extensively to robotics education and innovation. With over 360 refereed publications, including two textbooks, and more than 50 patents, Dr. Youcef-Toumi’s work highlights his dedication to the field.

His courses taught at MIT reflect his interest in mechatronics, including classes such as Introduction to Robotics and Dynamics and Control II, emphasizing hands-on projects and real-world applications.

Dr. Youcef-Toumi has played a significant role in fostering international collaborations and supporting women in STEM fields. He has been instrumental in programs such as the Ibn Khaldun Fellowship (IBK) for Saudi Arabian Women and the Center for Complex Engineering Systems (CCES) between MIT and KACST. He also leads innovative projects at the Mechatronics Research Laboratory (MRL).

His previous roles include co-leading the Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy at MIT and KFUPM. Dr. Youcef-Toumi has consulted for numerous prestigious companies and institutions, showcasing his broad impact on both academia and industry.
