The MIUL at MIT focuses on urban planning, environmental research, housing and urban design research. Our research has examined human behavior in built environments along inter-related topic areas

• Conserving historic cores of old cities while strengthening connections between city centers with other parts of growing cities
• Articulating infrastructure needs with awareness of ecological, and environmental challenges
• Identifying urban design opportunities that often go unnoticed
• Advising both public agencies and private sector firms on design and implementation strategies which have worked reasonably well in cities around the world
