Faculty Workshops
The Dean’s Office holds regular faculty lunches and workshops in order to build community and engage with faculty (especially junior faculty) on key issues pertaining to their advancement. Read about the Tenure-Track Lunch Program and learn more about our Faculty Leadership Training Program.
National Science Foundation Broader Impacts Statement Guidance
This document provides Principal Investigators (PIs) with Guidance on Crafting an Effective Broader Impacts (BI) Statement in their grant proposals, as required by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Mentorship Evaluation
In 2023, the Dean’s Office launched a pilot program on mentorship evaluation with participation from all departments. The goal of this program is to support and improve mentorship by individual faculty towards their trainees and mentees.
Lab Compacts
The Dean’s Office has started requesting that research groups create lab compacts. A well-crafted lab compact is extremely useful in defining and setting expectations around mentor-mentee relationships, core group values, mission and philosophy, communications, group meetings, behavioral expectations, supportive work environment, and other topics as needed. In order to facilitate the creation of these compacts, the Dean’s Office has circulated a document with Lab Compact Examples and Templates.
Professional Development Support
The Dean’s Office offers all School of Science faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and administrators membership to the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD).
