With Custom Courses, we design the curriculum based on the company goals and needs; whether it’s for upskilling, reskilling, onboarding, talent development, or just establishing a common language and shared mindset across teams within the company. In addition, custom courses are fully flexible in terms of start date, duration, synchronous and live interactions, and assessments. In contrast, off-the-shelf programs have these elements predefined.
-
Custom Courses are designed for organizations that want to develop supply chain capabilities tailored to their unique needs. They are ideal for teams or cohorts sponsored by a Manager or HR leader, ensuring that participants receive structured learning aligned with the company’s goals.
-
Assessments can be customized to align with the company’s goals, and can include options such as quizzes, graded assignments, and exams.

The program is delivered online through a mix of asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. The asynchronous component includes video lectures by MIT professors, practice problems, and homework assignments, delivered through an online learning platform such as edX Edge. Each course is facilitated by an MIT course lead who guides the cohort. In addition, the program can incorporate synchronous live events, where the cohort will learn from and interact with researchers at MIT. The balance between asynchronous and synchronous components can be customized to each company’s needs.

The requirements vary by course. Most courses use basic tools such as Excel spreadsheets. For machine learning courses, participants may also need SQL or Python. We mostly use and suggest open source or free access software when needed (such as LibreOffice and Orange). Information on the required and suggested software will be provided in advance to the in-company sponsor or lead, in case internal approvals are required from the company IT team. The course lead will provide guidance on how to download and install any required software.

Participants also receive weekly course updates highlighting upcoming topics and live sessions to foster engagement. Additionally, discussion forums are available on the platform within each course topic to provide opportunities for exchanging ideas with peers. Optionally, we can provide live office hours with the course lead or other MIT subject matter expert to answer questions about the course content and its applications, and help walk through assignments.
