Cooling Sleeve Sealant

MIT Motorsports | September 2024 – June 2025

For MY25 (formula student electric car for the 2024-25 school year) our team built our first ever four wheel drive car. One of the new components that came with the FWD car was the need for cooling sleeves, and my project was to design a sealing method for the cooling sleeves. I researched different sealant options and chose to use orings. Then, I picked out an oring size and material that met our requirements and I tested the oring with mock plastic cooling sleeves.

Other work I did on the team:

  • Used NX to CAD various components including radiator mounting
  • Used Ansys CFD to model different cooling sleeve designed
  • Tested various components for thermal retention, flow rate, and pressure dropped
  • Assembled the cooling loop on the car
  • Troubleshooted cooling loop issues and fixed issues as they came up
  • Waterjet components
  • Ran an event for women in build teams
  • Designed stickers
