MIT’s Undergraduate Collegiate Wind Competition Team

Our Mission

MIT Wind is a Edgerton Center team consisting of students across multiple disciplines with one thing in common: a passion to use their knowledge of science and technology for the advancement of a greener future. Our team aims to:

  • Train students to use physical and digital tools to design, prototype, and test small-scale wind turbines.
  • Encourage students to collaborate across our three sub-teams (mechanical, electrical, and project development).
  • Spark interest in wind energy via the Collegiate Wind Competition, campus events, and community outreach.

The Collegiate Wind Competititon (CWC)

The CWC is an annual competition hosted by the United States Department of Energy that brings together collegiate teams across the nation, challenging them to design and build wind turbines that will be put to the test in a wind tunnel. The CWC teams are judged based on their turbine’s design and performance, their site plan for a potential wind farm, and their engagement with their communities in regards to wind energy awareness.
