Our Purpose

We are a group of MIT, Harvard University, and Wellesley College students working in the MIT course Performance Studies: Advanced Theories of Sport. For our class project, we decided to create a cumulative database that answers common questions about Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and how it affects college sports. NIL has become a hot topic of debate since recent NCAA rule changes, raising questions about amateurism and whether students should get paid to play. Our research is compiled and presented as a website that we hope will remove some of the ambiguity that surrounds this controversial topic. This website dives into what is NIL, boosters/donors in the NIL era, policies and legislation, social impacts, funding sources, and how NIL affects the transfer portal. Additional resources are also provided for even more information on a topic that has completely changed the landscape of collegiate athletics.

Understanding NIL in College Athletics

This website seeks to be a one-stop-shop for becoming educated on NIL and understanding how it interacts with other aspects of college life, politics, finances, and everything else!
