Welcome to BCS Gradvocates!
Gradvocates is a loosely connected network of students who are going above and beyond to help improve the BCS gard student experience for existing and future grad students.
Many of our active members serve on various committees alongside faculty to help run the department and ensure student voices are represented and to advocate for student needs – effectively BCS’s form of student leadership. To effectively represent the entire BCS student population in these various roles, it is important to maintain communication between representative students from all cohorts and all subject areas, and with the current Grad officer.
Other gradvocates focus on keeping resources up to date, organizing social events, tutorials, journal clubs and outreach opportunities. Still others devote time to meaningful groups outside BCS. While the things each of us are passionate about and motivated by varies widely, we all share a common goal of improving our grad program, our department and our community.
We receive funding from the department to support events and purchases that help the graduate and wider BCS community. Please see the Members and Alumni page for a listing of current members and their roles, as well as available roles we are looking to fill. Please see the timeline of accomplishments page for a list of current/active obligations and a timeline of key accomplishment milestones throughout our history.
Interested in joining? Good news, all BCS grads are already gradvocates! All BCS grad students should be added to the gradvocates slack channel early in their first semester once current gradvocates have introduced themselves. Send an email to bcs-gradvocates@mit.edu if you need to be added to the slack. From there you can request to be added to the email list and google drive.
