This was a personal project that I worked on from 3/1/2019 to 5/10/2019. I created a bike with an electric motor attached to the back wheel allowing the motor to drive the wheel. I originally made this bike get to places faster like the grocery store or the office where I was working at the time.
I got a bike from the dumpster and performed a little maintenance on it to make it functional (I attached some wheels, fixed and tightened the brakes, and attached a chain). Then I used SolidWorks to design parts to mount the motor on the bike. I then proceeded to manually machine them. I assembled the motor to my bike using the parts I manufactured and created a two stage gear reduction system from the motor to the bike’s back wheel.
Sadly, I did not complete this project before the semester was over and I had to go home. All I needed was to get and attach the throttle and configure the electronic speed controller (ESC) to it, so the throttle could be used the drive the motor.
